SOUTH WEST TOUR
Chamarel
A winding road leads from Case Noyale village to the Coloured
Earths of Chamarel : a hill with undulating soil of different
and contrasting shades. The different silvers of blue, green,
red and yellow are apparently the result of the erosion of
the volcanic ash. The neighbouring waterfalls of Chamarel
rise from the moors and the native vegetation. The site holds
rare beauty.
Trou aux cerfs
Mauritius was formed after intense volcanic activity as proved
by the Trou aux Cerfs crater, on the plateau of Curepipe.
This extinct volcano is 85 metres deep with a diameter of
200 metres and offers an exceptional view on the west of the
island. The site is also a historical spot.
